GLOBAL RESIDENCE PROGRAMME (GRP)

The Global Residence Programme is designed for non-EU, non-EEA, and non-Swiss nationals seeking residence in Malta with favourable tax treatment. Successful applicants are granted a Special Tax Status Certificate, allowing them and their dependants to reside in Malta and travel visa-free within the Schengen Area. A non-refundable administrative fee of €6,000 needs to be paid this for special tax status. Under the GRP, foreign income remitted to Malta is taxed at a flat rate of 15%, subject to a minimum annual tax, while foreign income not remitted to Malta is not taxed locally. Income arising in Malta is taxed at the standard rate. Applicants must satisfy property, insurance, and fit-and-proper requirements and may work in Malta subject to the necessary permits.
